Regulating Lines

Le Corbusier. “Regulating Lines”. Towards a New Architecture-New York : Dove Publication 1986, pp.65-88
Jormakka, Kari. “Music and Mathematics as Models”. Basics Design Methods. Basel : Birkhauser 2007, pp.20-32

The writing which was written by Le Corbusier, Regulating Lines is about regulating lines generate an “order”. It explains that connection between primitive man’s measure and school man’s measure. Primative man had measured by his pace, his foot, or his finger, school man measured by rules of school. The writer defended that our eye can measure and geometry is languagebof man.
Other writing which was written by Jormakka, Kari, Music and Mathematics as Models is about whether it would be possible to translate musical composition into achitectural configurations. Some architects and some scientists tried some ways like vibration, numerical order, notation. But, dissatisfied with traditional translations of music into architecture. So, they added “dimention(four dimention)”, used “numerical ratios” and “regulating lines” which included the Golden Section.
The two writings defend that everything has got a geometrical structure with regulating lines like music, the universe. Indeed, natüre o human and human’s instinct have got this. Otherwise, while the fist writing which is Regulating Lines focuses on order, other one focus on numerical ratios. But, finally, in the past from the present people have used mathematical relations. People can measure unconsciously.

It is my design study. I did it for a week. My assignment was that first A4 photo will be studied on the 35-50 cm paper with parallel lines. First of all, I scaled and I amplified first photo. Then from top to bottom, I scratched with vertical parallel lines. Also, doing abstraction was wanted from me. And I didn’t draw windows and trees. These work forced me but it was very enjoyable.

AN AMERİCAN ARCHITECTURE, WRIGHT,F.L.

”…, in the evdeavor to accomplish more sensibly and sensitively this thing we call architecture. This is important point, because in these sentence, Wright explained architecture .Other important point is continuity Notion. In a building, all constructed features or appliances are related to each other.According to Wright,F.L. ” walls, ceilings, floors now become not only party to each other, but part of each other.” Another important point is relevant to absraction.”The abstract pattern of structure as an integrity of form and idea may be seen fused, as any tree, but with nothing imitating a tree.It is a rule of abstraction. And for me, most interesting point in the text is interior space. The interior space itself is reality of the building. In other words, an achitect build not only structure, the architect is responsible for interior space also.Because, architecture is integral.
