Dissolved and Pre-Jury

I had pre-jury last week.It was my first jury experience, so I was very excited.I and my friends tried to prepare our projects at the pre-jury time.In the pre-jury, we were expected a dissolved project. Now, Iwill explain the dissolved project.After exploding the four layers, I was expected to use the information present in the exploded layers to achieve a 3D construct, where the regulating lines were transferred discover new relations.Thenks to the actions( like; extrude, copy, add, move, rotate, align, extend, fold, juxtapose, intersect, substract, group, layer), the existing planes and lines to merge and dissolve.And also, I was expected to find a theme in my project.I tried to make it with my regulating lines.

First of all, my theme is “the cross”.I want to explain why the cross.Because, I wanted to emphasize bands in my drawing, especially the bands which is look like the cross.Other bands exist to support my theme.In the other words, the bands which are look like the cross are more dominant than other bands.For this reason, I used some actions.Now, I am explaining these actions.

My first step is moving.The acetate on the top moved which it adjusted to the reference lines.So, I acquired another reference lines.Then, I also used different types of foldings.(in sketch-1) Especially this folding type helped me to emphasize my fundamental element, the cross.(in sketch-2) Thanks to this folding type, the project was merged.And my last foldg tecnique, in sketch-3, I created a volume.I created a volume from 2 surfaces.I mean that it is not necessary 4 surfaces to create a volume like Domino House designed by Le Corbusier.In this structure, there aren’t 4 surfaces, but he created a space, a volume withs 2 planes.My other actions action is copying.I just copied 2 planes which haven’t got any overlapping other hatchings.And the were rotated(in sketch-4).My last action is extuding.I extruded lines, so I have vertical planes.So that structure could be stabile.Besides that, thanks to this action, I create a accord between horizontal and vertical lines(in sketch-5)

Of course, I used wire.It is also design element in this project.Like other actions, I tried to emphasize my band with continuous wire.I used the wire, I referenced from regulating lines and it intersect 3 layers.But I didn’t use througt the band, I just emphasize to some extent, then I emphasized other regulating lines or bands.This using the continuous wire is look like visual continuity.I mean that, it is not necessary continuity of wire, we can understand continuity of regulating line.

At the pre-jury time, I was very excited and I wondered critics about my project.8 jury criticized my project.Generally speaking, all of them said that I just paid attention hatching planes, so this project not completely dissolved.They were right, because, I used only hatchings.But now , I will particularly pay attention these critics on my project.

Orthographic Projection

I was expected to produce an orthographic set that is composed of 3 different views (top view, and two side views) of the composition I had produced in sketch problem.The scale of drawing is 2/1.I used drawing sheet which size is 35×50cm.

I was expected to extract and draw the 3D reference grid of my proposal for ARCH101 by placing a sketch paper on my previous axonometric drawing.

I used different colured pen to Show regulating lines easily,And I also drew my hand 🙂 So, I have coloured hands .

Axonometric Projection

I am expected to produce the axonometric projection of the design proposal of exploded layers that I have produced for ARCH101(superimpose-superpose-explode).The scale of the drawing is 1/1.I tried to pay attention to the organization of the drawing sheet, line weight, line type and line quality, as well as accuracy of the dimentions. I used miter which is 30 degree and 70-70 cm cartridge paper.

In fact this worl is look like easy.I had thougt this before when  I started.But it is not easy.If you want to draw right, you should pay attention.

Adolf Loos : Ornament and Crime

Loos, Adolf. “Ornament and Crime” in: Conrads, Ulrich (ed.) Programs and Manifestoes on 20th Century Architecture, The MIT Press, 1975. 

This week’s reading is about ornament and written by Adolf Loos.He explained unnecessary of ornament.

First of all, the writer explains the progress of human.At 2, children see with eyes of a Papuan.The writer assimilate to Papuan.Because, the Papuan kiils his enemies and eats them.But also he is not criminal and it is not a crime.But for modern man, it is a crime.According to Loos everything within reach is the start of plastic artAnd all art is erotic.I thınk this opinion very assertive.And he assimilate to woman-man and Beethoven.

The witer’s following discovery is that the evolution of culture is synonymous with the removal of ornament from utilitarian objects.In the other words for him, ornament is not necessary.When people say that people meant ornament, he says that therein lies the greatness of our age, that it is incapable of producing a new ornament.The writer adopts the World without any ornament.For writer, the ornamen is a retrograde step.According to writer the enormous damage and devastation caused in aesthetic development by the revival of ornament would be easily made light of, for no one, not even the pover of state. can halt mankind’s evolution.It can be only be delayed.Loon is not certainly accessible the ornament, and he doesn’t want to delay.Because of waste of human labour, money, material.I think this example explains the opinion of writer very clearly; There are unmodern people even cities, stragglers from eighteenth century, who are horrified by a Picture with purple shadows because they cannot yet see purple.

According to given examples omission of ornament results in a reduction in the manufacturing time and increase in wage.So ornament is wasted labour power and hence wasted gealth.So that the writer’s opinions are supported very clear.The writer says that human health is related to ornament.According to Loon, mankind is healthier than ever, only a few people are sick.But these few tyrannize over the worker who is so healthy that he cannot invent ornament.Finally the writer just tolarate ornaments on human’s body.For writer, ornaments are not necassary on other things.

I deduce this reading about the architecture. History of architecture, ornaments have been used in exterior and interior of structure.I agree Loos about ornament.His opinion is valid for architecture.First of all; the enormous damage caused in aesthetic by ornament and the ornament can strain eyes exceedingly,Second; due to ornament, manufacturing time and wage are increasing.Third; in architecture, sometimes ornament is wasted labour power.
