UNIVERSITY HOUSING | Assignment 2.2 CASE STUDIES

We were expected to conduct a research on architectural problems that are similar to university hosing project and the architectural solutions that are proposed and/or realized for them. Some lists, which consist of similar structures in terms of common areas, some dormitories, holistic structures, were advised us. And we researched and picked some of them for presentation. The case study was necessary to answer some questions;

  • How is the problem defined by the clients and architects; what are the specifics of the content and the context and how do they incorporate in the design solution?
  • How does the design solution respond to the urban context and what social intentions or consequences does it involve for the larger context?
  • How does the design solution organize the programmatic aspects and what are the spatial products of this organization?
  • What is the characteristic approach that the design solution introduces into the concept of dwelling, in social, cultural, political and psychological forms, (in relation to the characteristics of the users or in general)?
  • What is the characteristic approach that the design solution introduces into the concept of housing in economical, technological, constructional and planning forms (in relation to the characteristics of the client/owner or in general)?
  • How does the design solution communicate itself (through architectural space, form or other ways)?

UNIVERSITY HOUSING | Assignment 2.1 PROBLEM DEFINITION

UntitledThe first assignment after the designing logo was analysis and synthesis which both includes objective and subjective qualities of the given areas. We were expected to build up a “problem definition” for the design task our office “dem architects” is given with the scenario “University Housing”.
The tentative project area is shown at the map. Many problems can be suggested to have two major parts to begin with; the content and the context.

In this presentation, we focused on Kurtuluş Park. We analysed some graphics, and  photos. Major parts of analysises contains the observation on Kurtuluş Park such as location of the areas, the density of green area, common areas, safety condition of the area . And also, the program which given to us was taken into consideration; such as jobs of users.

UNIVERSITY HOUSING | Assignment 1 LOGO DESIGN

sdfdsf

Hi everyone!

This semester in ARCH301 and ARCH381 courses, the area surrounding Kurtuluş Park has been designated as our project area because of some purpose. as a first step, three plots within the area have been specified for the construction of three large scale “University Housing” projects, one being closer to Medical Schools of Hacettepe U. and Ankara U., one to Cebeci Campus with Faculties of Law and Political Science and the third to the young, beloved and precious TED University.

For this project, the first thing to do is to get our firm and establish its institutionalization, which will be operative for the whole semester both for two courses.

First of all; we picked a name for our firm as “dem architects”. And we designed a logo. I think, the process of designing logo is the most entertaining part of the semester. 🙂
